Sending and receiving money with Airtel

Airtel Uganda, through the Airtel Money service is at the forefront of increasing financial inclusion in Uganda. Airtel Money provides the most affordable, reliable, secure, and instant money transfer solutions in Uganda. Over the past years, Under the supervision of the central Bank, Airtel Uganda has partnered with several financial institutions to bring financial services closer to the unbanked population.

Airtel continuously leads the innovation race, to provide financial services in a safe, secure and instant manner. The Airtel Money platform enables millions of users to send and receive money countrywide, paying utility bills, school fees, make URA tax payments, and access mobile banking services on their phones.

The Airtel Money service is currently the most affordable way to send and receive money across Uganda. Airtel users send money for as low as Shs100, and the highest applicable sending fee is Shs1,000 for sending as much as Shs7 million to another Airtel money user. Airtel users receive Airtel money free of charge directly to their Airtel money accounts, making it the most affordable option available in Uganda.

Compared to other traditional methods of sending and receiving money countrywide, the Airtel money service is secure, simple and easy to use.

  • Acquire an Airtel Uganda line and register for the Airtel money service at no cost. Registration can be done at any Airtel Money branch or service center countrywide.
  • Once fully registered, the Airtel user can send money by dialing *185*1# to access the sending service, enter the receivers number and confirm the transaction by entering your PIN.
  • Money sent using Airtel Money is received instantly by the receiving person, there are no delays. The receiver will get an SMS message from Airtel Money, informing them of the amount they have received and who the sender is.

Airtel users can access the money they receive by withdrawing at any of the 140,000 Airtel money agent or 700 Airtel Money Branches spread across Uganda. In every community, trading center, town or village, rural or urban in Uganda, Airtel users can access an Airtel Money Agent on demand. Airtel Money Agents are trained and equipped to support Airtel Money users withdraw money from their Airtel Money accounts in exchange for cash.

The current Airtel Money withdrawal charges are the most affordable compared to any other money transfer service in Uganda, the highest applicable withdraw fee is Shs12,500 for withdrawing as much as Shs7 million from an Airtel money Agent. This further enhances Airtel money’s positioning as the most affordable money transfer service in Uganda.

LARGEST BRANCH NETWORK IN UGANDA

Today, Airtel Uganda has set up over 700 Airtel Money Branches (AMBs) countrywide. Airtel Money branches are designed to offer Airtel users customer support over the counter in a comfortable environment, and the attendants are knowledgeable and equipped to ensure all customer queries are resolved effectively in a timely and friendly manner

Airtel Uganda, through its Airtel Money Branches has presence in over 114 districts of Uganda from the furthest boarder town of Bwera (DRC Border) all the way to Busia (Kenya Border), from Katuna (Rwanda Border) to Elegu (South Sudan Border).

Bringing services closer to the population has significantly reduced the distances Ugandans had to travel to access financial services and the associated cost, greatly increasing the uptake of financial services. This has made doing business across the country easier.

Through this branch network, Airtel customers are able to get the same services across the country and this has helped to reduce the cost of accessing financial services as well as easing communication. At any of these branches, the customer is guaranteed of any value of cash or e-value at all times including weekends.
